Somehow, I missed this earlier but now bring you the news that Liuzhou Government has handed over ¥1,000,000 of the locals' money to the city's Olympic gold medal winners.
The FT is reporting that Liuzhou's most famous export, Li Ning is $30 million US dollars richer as a result of his 4 minute flight and torch lighting. Great work if you can get it.
China Mobile have sent me a nice message to inform me that they are going to send me a message every time a Chinese competitor wins an Olympic medal. All for free!
As predicted, at the climax of the Olympic opening ceremony, Liuzhou native, Li Ning got to light the Olympic Flame. But not until he flew around the stadium for a while. I missed it.
Like all other cities, Liuzhou is doing it's best to grab some of the limelight from Beijing, a mere 3,535 kilometres away. Any connection, however tenuous will do.
