As ever at this time of year, China is on the move or about to be. Each Spring Festival (Chinese New Year), literally millions travel to wherever home is. As more and more people move away from their origins in search of work, each year the numbers going home increase. Whatever the count, each year it is cited as the highest number of people on the move in world history.
Such are the crowds (and the cold) that the stations have to build large marquee-type shelters outside the station to hold the waiting throngs. It takes hours to buy a ticket. If you can get one. A few years ago Shenzhen, beside Hong Kong, a city full of migrant workers, opened a special ticket office in a sports arena just to cope with the crowds. There was a stampede. Not many people died.
So today, the local rag has pictures of rather orderly train users. Note the ticket in mouth carrying technique of the guy at the front. Of course this is a staged photo.
