Due to an unusual alignment of the heavenly bodies, the sky over China last night (Dec 1) was dominated by a huge, if lopsided, smiley in the sky!
The relatively new moon made a nice smile while Venus (left) and Jupiter (right) made the eyes.
Or, so they tell me.
Apparently, this alignment happens about once a year, but is not always so visible. It really was very bright in an otherwise starless sky. Although I was watching it in the countryside without the distraction of street lights etc.
The picture below was taken in Liuzhou.

Darn, the sky was cloudy last night. I so wanted to see this. :(
hi~there last night i can see this lovely smile in guangzhou.cheers!
REMEMBER THE CRAB POOL IN THE LITTLE PERISHERS STRIP IN THE 'MAIL'?-
AAIIEEE, THE EYES IN THE SKY!!! : )
I was too damn lazy to go back upstairs and grab my camera when we were
walking to dinner the other night. Kicking myself now!
