If I have any readers left in Liuzhou, I just wish to reassure you that we are not under attack!

The sirens you heard wailing across the city between 5:00 and 6:00 pm were a 'test'. They've been having a bit of a PLA propaganda week, educating the local brats as to the importance of national defence and the great contribution made by the PLA (when they're not too busy in a certain square in Beijing).
It also coincides with the annual new soldier intake. We are fed pictures of happy recruits being shipped off for indoctrination training.
So, the sirens were to 'test' the Air Defence System. Quite who or what they are defending against isn’t clear. Bird flu, perhaps?
Here's a thread I started about something that happened in the city where I
live, Zhuhai. (Wife is from Liuzhou).
