Laowai Deported

posted Sunday, 27 January 2008

Liuzhou has won the race to be the first city in China to deport a foreigner this year.

“Salifu” from Cameroon had overstayed his visa, was fined and given 10 days to leave the country. He was also put on China’s list of undesirable aliens, which technically means he can never be issued a visa in future. The report does not mention the amount of the fine, but “current regulations state that the penalty for overstaying a visa is 500 RMB per day of overstay, not to exceed 5000 RMB and/or detention. The period of detention can range from 5-30 days depending on the severity of the violation”

Foreigner Deported

He claimed that he paid someone in Guangzhou to renew his visa but that person ran off with ¥4000 of his money. An unlikely tale. There is no way a visa costs ¥4000.

There have been deportations from Liuzhou before. Mostly for overstaying.

My residence permit is OK, I think.
