Artist's ImpressionIn a fit of grandeur, Liuzhou has announced that they are to build the highest building in south-west China. Work on the skyscraper will begin this autumn and will take five years to complete. The building, situated in the city centre, will be 303 metres high. The 60 floors will contain a hotel, offices, shops and homes and will cost 4 billion Yuan. At present the highest building in Guangxi is in Nanning  - a mere 276 metres.

The new building will dwarf what the locals laughingly call ‘mountains’. The karst hills which surround Liuzhou are only around 100 metres. The highest in the city centre, Ma’an Shan (Horse Saddle Mountain) is 182 metres.
