Blocked City? Latest Update

At approximately 19:30 (Beijing time) this evening, Blog-city became available after being ‘blocked’ in various parts of China throughout the day. I have been monitoring this most of the day and it was open in Beijing and Shenzhen, for example, but not in Shanghai or anywhere in Guangxi.


Normally, I tend to ignore 'my site is blocked' type messages until the evidence becomes overbearing. Usually they aren't blocked at all; they are just down for some other reason. However, today, the site was still available through my usual nefarious ways of getting around the Chinese Internet Nanny’s childish behaviour, which suggests that there was nothing wrong with the site – as does the fact that people could get it in other cities, although city specific blocks are not unknown.

What concerned me is that this is pretty much how the year long block a few years ago began. Selective blocks spread to the whole country.

Anyway, all is well at the moment. Thanks to all those who let me know the position in their location and to others who commented. I have now deleted these comments as they are somewhat irrelevant to the current situation.

I will keep you informed of any developments, but as the vast majority of my readers (both of you) are not in China, I’m not too worried. In fact, the last time I was blocked my readership went up!
 
UPDATE - Christmas Day, 17:50 Beijing Time. Some areas still having problems. Me? I'm off for a beer or ten!

I thought you might say that - however when the symposium site was 'blocked' it was also unavailable through my roundabout tactics, meaning the site was just down.

Blog-city was not available without circumventing China's blocks. Somewhat different.

But I still blame you! :-)

Three hours later, I'm still getting phone calls and messages from around China saying that it is 'blocked'.

The approval of all comments so far and the two posts today were all done through a proxy. I am now accessing directly. I'm told it's still down in Hainan.
