Having received a couple of calls from foreign parts, this is a short entry to let you know that the earthquake in Sichuan province has had no effect here and that we are all safe.
I couldn't make this up! Over the years, I have often mentioned the amazing regularity with which Liuzhou people like to fall down holes. Most of them end up being taken to hospital. Now the hospital has decided to fall down a hole, too.
Not content in just having a bunch of clowns running the place, Liuzhou Government has announced that there will be a second International Clown Festival in Liuzhou from the 1st to 3rd of May.

I’m delighted to report that, after a long break, the people of Liuzhou have taken to falling down holes again. At the weekend, this 50 year old man kept up the tradition by falling into a well and having to be rescued.
This is utterly bizarre. My cell phone service provider, China Mobile, sends out daily news digests by SMS. Yesterday they send me a most unusual and somewhat sinister story.
