Liuzhou's bus stops are a thing of great joy. They all have names. Usually, they are named after local landmarks such as schools, factories, markets, hotels, hospitals etc.
I?ve never been one for Liuzhou?s bars. Most of them are overpriced hell holes playing loud dance music and selling bad drinks to drunken 15 year olds. Or drunken 30 year olds acting like drunken 15 year olds. So, last night, when I was invited out f
Last night was the Lantern Festival which is held on the 15th day of the first month of the lunar calendar and which marks the end of the Spring Festival. I took myself off out in the evening.
Here is a nice picture from the local rag showing the good people of Liuzhou lining up to purchase their pork in the local market. Why do they have this photo? An article about the rising price of pork?
A few weeks ago, the locals erected this obelisk in the least visited part of Liuzhou's pedestrian street. It depicts various scenes from what is meant to be the city's history.
I?ve just found that there was a concert in Liuzhou last week featuring local musicians and their compositions. Sixteen different musical items were presented including a song about Liuzhou?s favourite dish, Luosifen (Snail Noodles).

For no obvious reason, I have gathered together some of my pictures taken around Liuzhou and made a little slide show. You can watch here if you are so inclined.
I was looking for something on the interweb and came across these Chinese stamps which were apparently issued last summer. They depict each of the officially recognised ethnic groups in China.
China doesn't really celebrate the Western New Year. Oh, yes they make a fuss on television and the President waffles on for a bit, Jackie Chan sings some god-awful song and everyone bashed on regardless.
Liuzhou has an unfortunate history as far as western food is concerned. Western food restaurants come and go faster than steroid fuelled Olympic athletes. We have had all sorts.
Only minutes after informing you that I had been mistaken in my duck acquisition techniques, I stumble across the awful truth that I’ve also been catching my fish incorrectly, too!
There are many favourite local duck recipes and dishes. Beer duck is a local favourite, for example. And duck hotpot is popular in the winter. I have even been known to make the occasional duck dish myself.
Happy Birthday China.Today is the 58th anniversary of the founding of the Peoples' Republic when Mao stood on the wall of Tiananmen and declared the republic. To celebrate, as they do every year, the local government held a banquet.
I'm delighted to discover that Liuzhou is spending its money wisely. I live just off one of the major thoroughfares of the city and, over the last few months, the locals have been digging up the road and then remaking it.
