It is not often a story with a title like "Liugang No 2 converter put into production" attracts my attention. Especially from India.
But something caught my attention.
The story is about Liuzhou's main polluter employer, Liuzhou Iron and Steel Group and announces the stunning fact that convertor No 2 is in production and that this follows convertor No 1 but precedes convertor No 3.
As with everything else in China, we have to have a ceremony. These always begin with some pretty girl introducing the assembled bunch of self important drunken idiots leaders who are in attendance. After being introduced, they often disappear back to the banquet they have been having since 1949.
On this occasion, we were honoured to have "Mr Liu Tie general manager and chief engineer of Liuzhou Iron and Steel Group and some other leaders".
I think they've got the translation slightly wrong. "Liu Tie" means "Liuzhou Iron". This is akin to calling Bill Gates, Mr Micro Soft.
Gave me a giggle.
UPDATE: The spoilsports have edited it! It now reads "As per report, general manager and chief engineer of Liuzhou Iron and Steel Group and some other leaders attended the commissioning ceremony."
Not nearly half so funny!
