Holy Mall - Updated

posted Sunday, 23 November 2008

Well, they finally opened their underground shopping mall inches from the river which floods the city every year. It came on line today, Sunday. It is under Longcheng Road.

It looks remarkably like a shopping mall which is underground. Full of the same cheap fashion shops that are everywhere else. There is nothing new.

Today it was really crowded, although I suspect that may have been because no one could find the way out. There are a whole load of entrances and exits, but underground there is nothing to tell you where you are in relation to the real world upstairs. Exits aren't marked in any way. There are no toilets or trashcans. Or anywhere to sit down or have a drink. You have thought they had learned after all the complaints when the opened their new square in the same way.

It looked like this...

...but felt like this!

Blur

At the same time, to get into the spirit of things, another road elsewhere in the city decided to collapse and leave an 8 meter deep hole. Luckily, no one was shopping underneath that road at the time.

I'm going to stay home and do all shopping by internet. Liuzhou is far too dangerous. You never know when you are going to fall through a hole - or have a street fall on you.

AND...

In honour of the event another local kid got himself stuck down a hole. Liuzhou - More holes than the Albert Hall.

UPDATE  - More Hole!

Another Liuzhou road collapsed on Sunday evening. This one is about two meters deep and 5 to 6 square meters in area. No one fell in. Yet.

OMG... I thought it was only in Perth that they did stupid things like building a belltower right next to the river... then charging a heap to go into something that we already paid for in our taxes! Now they are going to build a big ferris wheel close by...

very good blog and excellent news for our Liuzhou Citizens. Though I did not go to the Longcheng undergroud shop. I still feel not covinet and not safety for bad facibiities.

Yeah, it was a bit of a madhouse. Jo and I went through yesterday. One BIG hole in the ground. There was a lot of looking but I didn't actually see a lot of buying going on. It may actually be warm in the winter down there...
