Down in the Flood

posted Thursday, 12 June 2008

As I may have pointed out before, it's been raining quite a lot. But don't worry, we're safe. All is well. The Party is looking after us.  According to what I read in the local papers:

"Zhang Yonggang, Vice Mayor of Liuzhou City said 'We are ready to evacuate everybody within five minutes if anything happens."

Is the guy clinically insane? It takes them about two hours to organise a group photo never mind an evacuation of over a million people. (Appearing in group photos is the main (sole) occupation of all Chinese goverment officials. The President does it about 100 times a day.)

"If anything happens ..."  What does that mean? Does "anything" include it stops raining, for example.

And the idiots are still building their underground shopping mall right beside the river.
