The Whole Story

posted Tuesday, 19 June 2007

"Now they know how many holes it takes to fill the Albert Hall."

If the Albert Hall ever runs short of holes, we have plenty here in Liuzhou. It seems that every week or so holes appear and usually someone falls in.

It seems that no one fell into this one, which was formed yesterday when an underground drainage tunnel became overloaded after the recent heavy rains. The drain collapsed taking the road with it and leaving a 6 metre wide, 3 metre deep hole.

I've no idea why you're not seeing the pictures. They appear perfectly here. Are Chinese news websites being blocked in the US?

Anyway, I've now moved them to a US based image server. Should be OK now.

direct reason is heavy rain, but further reason might be rising of water level caused by downstream dam to store water
