Phoenix Hawk Drops In

posted Monday, 6 November 2006
Mere days after informing you about Japanese Giant Flying Squirrels running around the streets of Liuzhou, I read that we now have strange birds dropping in, too.
This chap turned up at a local builders' supplies market, by flying into a plate glass window and stunning itself. Before it could say "ouch!", it had been tethered and the very busy "odd life form identifier" from Liuzhou Zoo was summoned once again.
Crested Goshawk
He reckons it is a Crested Goshawk, and who am I to argue.  (Incidentally, the Chinese name literally translates as "Phoenix Hawk")
Once again, the news report fails to mention what happened to the bird, but hotpot season is coming up!
