Flood Deaths in Liuzhou

posted Tuesday, 21 June 2005

Four people have died in Liuzhou over the weekend in flood related accidents. No details have yet been released.

The heavy rain which we have been having for several days, peaking over the weekend, is forecast to continue for three to five days, although the authorities are claiming that the worst is over. I hate to be cynical, but I've heard that before.

So far, 363,000 people in Liuzhou have been directly affected by the floods, with 53,232 being compelled to seek new accommodation. 801 houses have been destroyed and 7,121 damaged. 30,865 hectares of crops have also been wiped out. The total cost of the disaster to date is estimated at 57.688 million yuan.

Take care!
