The neighbours are doing what the neighbours do best. They are making lots of noise.
Yesterday morning, at around 8:30, I heard the first thump of the day. Right outside my window, a few guys with sledgehammers were smashing up and breaking down the wall separating my apartment block from the (probably illegal) shacks to the rear.

On investigating, I discovered that there was an official looking sign on the wall which they were demolishing. It seems the local government had taken exception to the wall as it didn’t meet official wall standards memorandum number 923745. Or something.
So, they smashed up the wall and took it away on the back of a truck.
I went out. Sledgehammering walls all morning is not my idea of background music.
This morning, I woke up to the sound of a pile of bricks being delivered. The shack neighbours just waited for the government people to go away and then set out to rebuild their wall.
Prior to the wall incident, we were delighted a few weeks ago when two young lads moved into to one of the illegal houses at the back. They are very models of public spiritedness. So kind are they that, when they eventually crawl out of their beds around 3 pm, they treat the entire neighbourhood to a full volume rendition of the one disco tune they possess. Every day.
The walls literally shake. I don't hear their 'music'. I feel it.
So, war was declared. The first act was to just switch off their electricity at the fuse box attached to the outside of their house. They assumed it was just a power cut, which are fairly frequent. That bought us a few hours of peace until the idiots worked out that it was only them who were cut off.
Next day they started again. So, I switched the power off again. And again. And again.
They seem to have taken the hint. Other neighbours berated them, too. And for the last couple of days they have been quiet.
I feel somewhat disappointed. I had plans to follow up the initial volley.
Wimps.
