Bank Stupidity

How stupid can they be?

I have mentioned the utter incompetence of Chinese banks before, but this takes the proverbial biscuit!

I have just been to the bank to withdraw some beer coupons. For reasons known only to themselves, the Agricutural Bank, second biggest bank in China and holders of all my reserves have decided to upgrade their system. At the weekend.

All ATMs are out of service. No one can get any cash. A client is trying to pay me for a job, but can't transfer the money. Total meltdown.

Like in most places, people here like to go out on a Friday night and to go shopping on a Saturday. Prime cash spending time. So the bank chooses to close down from 6pm Friday to 10 am Sunday.

Morons!

They helpfully tape a notice to the wall beside the ATM. The notice is dated the 24th, but wasn't there yesterday.

This translates as.

"Please note that, from 6 pm on the 28th (Friday) until 10 am on Sunday the 30th, due to the incompetence and arrogance of the bank management, we are keeping your money. You can't have it. Go away.

We realise that this has totally screwed up your weekend, but we don't care. We reserve our right to totally ignore the needs of our customers and act like complete idiots every time we try to make a decision. Sorry, we are usually drunk. Got to go to a banquet. See you."

Well, something like that.

So It's a quiet night in for the Liuzhou Laowai tonight.
